The very beginning. As soon as Ryan and I decided to work on a song together, Ryan got right to work and sent me this within an hour. It was absolutely perfect and it formed the foundation for the whole song.

The first rap song I ever wrote. Of course it was about handbells! It also won the 2025 Handbell Musicians of Canada composition contest.

I wrote this song, only the second rap song I’ve ever written, across two afternoons on a handbell cruise to Alaska, July 24-25, 2025. I wrote the melancholy half on one day, then the hopeful half the next day. Once I got home, I recorded the vocals on my phone, assembled the photos, and made a quick video. I had the honour of showing the video to Pete and Bas in person a couple weeks later.

July 26, 2025, Newcastle UK. First time to meet Pete and Bas. At the concert that evening, Bas invited me on stage to point out my shirt, which had all the lyrics to their song “Bish Bash Bosh” on it. Then the beat dropped, Bas handed me a beer, and DJ Queenie handed me a microphone. It’s a bit unnerving when the first time you rap in front of an audience, you’re doing a song full of tongue twisters on stage with the two legends who wrote it.

October 22, 2025, Seattle, Washington. When Pete and Bas invited some ladies up on stage to dance with them for the song, “T Pain”, Pete asked if I wanted to come up and sing. I expected to be given a spare mic like in Newcastle, but Pete wanted me to cover his part so he could dance. I wasn’t singing with him, I was singing for him. No stress. You go dance, Bossman, I got this. This was the night that made me want to be a rapper myself. I was hooked.
